Mo SalahR 17;s Liverpool contract saga has rumbled on for much of the season, with the forward originally seeking financial parity with Cristiano Ronaldo but is now ready to ease his demands.
Mo Salah is edging towards a new Liverpool deal after choosing to compromise on his contract demands.
The Egyptian will enter the final 12 months of his deal this summer and there are fears that he could leave Anfield after five prolific seasons. Salah was initially seeking a massive pay rise that would’ve seen him draw level with Cristiano Ronaldo, the Premier League’s highest earner.
But now Salah, who has acknowledged the affection shown to him at Liverpool following his international failures, is ready to meet the club halfway regarding his salary demands. The 29-year-old has twice fallen short with Egypt in recent months-losing the AFCON final and missing out on a place at the World Cup after a play-off defeat.
Salah will ease off on his £500k-a-week request, which would’ve forced Liverpool to rip up their wage structure at Anfield. A three-year extension has been discussed with the Anfield hierarchy, with the option of a further year, which would tie down the forward for the remainder of his time at the top.
The forward is enjoying his best season to date, scoring 28 times as he targets a third Golden Boot in five seasons in England. Liverpool’s signing of Luis Diaz in January did fuel speculation that the Reds were potentially planning for life after Salah, but the Colombian will now provide another option for Jurgen Klopp.
The German said last month: “This season, everyone is completely committed. It is a clear commitment for the team for this season, and then we’ll talk about the rest-future, immediate, further. But Mo is not a guy for that, not at all. If I don’t line him up, then his mood goes down. That is possible, but not against the team or whatever.
It’s just that I think it’s how it should be in the moment. The decisive parties are in contact, and the rest we will see. Everyone is committed. ”
We could have some players who don’t play often enough and aren’t in the squad enough and they could create a bad atmosphere. They don’t. They will not. And Mo is not a guy for that. ”
That came after Salah made his feelings clear regarding his future at Anfield when the news first broke that contact talks were ongoing. Having signed in 2017 from Roma, the Egyptian stated he was ready to see out his playing days with the Premier League outfit.
He told Sky Sports: “If you ask me, I would love to stay until the last day of my football career, but I can’t say much about that-it’s not in my hands.” At the moment, I can’t see myself ever playing against Liverpool. That would make me sad. ”
